THEFT OF CYCLE.
UNLAWFUL SALE TO DEALER. CHARGE AGAINST YOUTH. Already on probation for another offence, Eric William Lanham, aged 19, a labourer, who appeared for sentence in the' Police Court yesterday on a charge of stealing a bicycle valued at £lO, on July 9, had his term of probation extended for six months.
AYhen lie was first brought before tlic Court it was stated tliat he had been dealt with on another charge of theft a few days previously and had been granted probation. He had immediately obtained a bicycle from a city dealer on hire-pur-chase terms and had sold it to a secondhand dealer foi £2 10s. It was believed that he had tried to obtain money to join his lather in the South.
"I have had a report from the probation officer about this young man," said the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, yesterday. ''There are peculiar circumstances about this case, as accused tried to raise money on the bicycle as soon as he left the Court." Mr. Hunt then extended Lanham'.s term of probation for six months, and ordered him to make restitution of* £ 2 10s.
