ABILITY OF MOTORIST.

LICENSED IN MOUNT EDEN. CITY INSPECTOR'S COMPLAINT. "This complaint is a very trivial one. and could well have l>ecn dealt with verbally," said the, Mayor, Mr. E. H. Potter, at a meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council last evening, when the council was considering a complaint received from the City Council regarding the alleged incompetence of a motor driver who had been licensed by the Mount Eden Council. Mho complaint included a report from a city traffic inspector. He said he was on point duty at Grafton Bridge when lie saw the car" driven by the driver concerned and noticed that lie was in difficulties. On receiving from the officer the signal to advance, the car moved jerkily backward and forward, and finally came to a stop. The officer went over to tho man and finding he was extremely confused and nervous, drove tho ear across tho intersection for him. The driver was licensed by the Mount Eden Borough Council. In dealing with the matter last evening, Mr. Potter read the report of the borough traffic inspector, in which it was stated that the driver had passed the licensing test very creditably. On the day in question ho drove the car to a gaiage to have the clutch attended to as it was slipping, but he was unable to get this rectified and drove the car home. When near Grafton Bridge he was held up by the traffic inspector, and when lie tried to start again the clutch slipped and the car jumped forward and backward three times. He was abused by a driver immediately in his rear, and when the traffic inspector came over and spoke sharply to him, he admitted he became confused and nervous. After stopping for about 10 minutes in Svmonds Street, the driver became calm again and drove home. The inspector considered the complaint was trivial and showed prejudice. Tho council decided to receive both reports. and to forward a copy of the borough traffic inspector's report to the City Council.
