PRICES IN COUNTRY TOWNS.
Sir,—i read with interest the- lettdxs regarding wheat and the price of bi-eacP I think an alteration is far more ncede?i in the price of meat. I am speaking : 0 f the district iri which [ live. J know if I have a good-conditioned good-sized cow to sell and ask the butcher for i price f or iier, it is £J. take it or leave it. Yet if one goes into a shop to buy meat it'k precious little one will get* for £3 t think in these days of unemployment and working under reduced hours, there could probably be a saving made here and still leave butchers a handsome margin of profit. If Imtellers can buy meat cheaper in the country, why cannot they sell it cheaper, allowing the same margin of p lo _ fit as town butchers? "
