RELATIVE BRITISH DECLINE. TOTALS OF CONSTRUCTION. LONDON, July 1«. A decline in Britain's shipbuilding posi (ion in relation to the rest of the world is shown in Lloyd's returns for the quarter ended .June 30. Out of 3,057,000 tons under construction in the world, 1.392,000 tons, or 45.5 per cent., is being built in Britain and Ireland, and 1,665,000 tons, or 54.5 per cent., abroad. The average percentages for the 12 months before the. war were 57.2 for Britain and Ireland, and 42.8 abroad. The tonnage under construction m Britain and Ireland includes 831.000 lons in motor-ships and 148,000 in tankers.
