AERIAL TOWERS ON ROOF.
ERECTION IN QUEEN STREET. VIEW OF CITY ENGINEER. The City Courlcil last evening referred to the Town Planning Committee for a report on application from Lewis Eady, Limited, for permission to erect two wireloss aerial masts on the flat roof of the Lewis Eadv Building, Queen Street. The mast on the Queen Street front is to be constructed of Oregon timber in the form of a pryamidial braced tower on an eightfeet square base and the High Street one will be of screwed metal pipe stayed with wiii s rope The city engineer reported that in his opinion timber was not altogether suitable material, and further, (ho structure proposed, while of sufficient strength, would bo somewhat conspicuous and hardly a thing of beauty. Jf, therefore, permission was granted by the council, if should be for a limited number of years only, and subject to the condition that no advertising matter or electrical illumination whatsoever was placed on the towers, ami that full responsibility inns! be taken bv Lewis Eady, Limited, for the stability and maintenance of the towers.
