DEATH OF WOMAN.
MANSLAUGHTER VERDICT. ITALIAN SENT TO GAOL. (Keceived July IG, 11.5 p.m.) BRISBANE, July 16. An Italian, Giovanni Maggiori, was convicted of tlie manslaughter of Mrs. Margaret Furst at Applethorpo and sentenced to three years' imprisonment. Accused's defence was that the woman attacked him and he accidentally killed her in self-defence.
Mrs. Margaret Furst was a woman of educational attainments who conducted an orchard at Applethorpe, Southern Queensland. The woman was last seen by the local postmistress on February 6 when she called for her mail. After that the postmistress was not able to communicate with her by telephone. She became suspicious and told the police. A search was made by tho poiice. They found a parrot and buflrlog on the verge of starvation at the house, which was deserted. They secured black trackers and tho garden was dug up. Finally Mrs. Furst's body was found four feet below the surface of the ground. Ilcr skull had been fractured. The ground where her body was buried had recently been harrowed apparently to allay suspicion.
