A proposed new method of examination m the university colleges of New Zealand! for the B.A. and P..Sc. (1) degrees was discussed at u meeting of the Otiigo Uni- . versity Council to-day. Hie registrar of tho University of New Zealim! wrote .asking for the views of tho council oil tho proposal, that the examinations Lc of the external type, namely, that the professor act as (lie internal examiner of his own students and have another professor associated with him. it was suggested that tho matter be referred to the lYofessoml Boar.d, but the registrar said the board had aheadv J. K. Jnglis said a simple system had boon suggested. It was proposed that tho four univeiMty colleges bo paired and two sets of papers prepared Thus; tho professor at Canterbury would 1,0 the external examiner at Otago and ,l, e professor at Otago tho external examiner »f Canterbury. 1 lie same set of papers would be used at each college. The same system would apply between the two North Island colleges. Mr. W. J. Morrell said it would be belter to get a report from the Professorial 'Board. ■ c It was decided to ask tho arts and science faculties to report to tho Professorial Board, the board to report to tho council.
