VALUELESS CHEQUE ISSUED.

"He lias a long list and has been declared an habitual criminal, wliilo at present ho is out on licence," said CJiiefDetective Hammond, when Cyril Albert Hoskin, aged 51, appeared in the Police Court yesterday. Ho was charged with issuing a valueless cheque and thereby obtaining from a city firm goods to the value of £2 3s 9d, and £8 6s 3d in money. He was further charged with fraudulently obtaining a bicycle, valued at £lO, from a cycle dealer
Chief-Detective Hammond said accused enteied into a time purchase agreement with tho cycle dealer, and later on the same day converted the invoice into a receipt and pledged tho bicycle for £.2 15s. Regarding tho other offence Hoskin had by some means got a cheque book and had bought tools from the ironmongers. In pleading for accused, who admitted committing both offences, Mr. Noble said it. seemed almost, impossible to expect his client to go straight. The magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, passed sentence of six months' imprisonment 011 the first charge, accused being convicted and discharged 011 the second.
