EGG-LAYING RECORD.
FAME OF WAITARA HEN. OFFER SENT FROM AMERICA. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday. The fame of the Black Orpington lion which recently broke the world's record for egg-laying at tho Taranaki Society's competitions has spread far. The hen is being sought after by one of tho biggest poultry farms in tho world, Osborne Farm, Michigan, United States. A cabled offer was received only yesterday and the owner, Mrs. Wuddell, of Waitara, has not yni had time to arrive at a decision. Tho offer is an exceptionally good ono and shows that tho bird has made a name for itself abroad. Tho record oi tho bird, To Kawau Princess, is an amazing one, for in 364 days, the official period, she laid 364 eggs. During that period, howevor, three of her eggs were soft-shelled, and her official rocord was 361 eggs. The previous world's egc-production record was established by an° Australian bird, which laid 354 eggs in 364 days.
