ONE TREE HILL AFFAIRS.
STOCK ON THE ROADS.
COMMERCIAL AIRPORT
"I think this is a most narrow-minded suggestion," said Mr. J. S. Ilardwicke, Mayor of One Tree Hill, at a meeting of tho Borough Council last evening when a letter was received from the Great South Road Beautifying Council suggesting that local bodies should agitate for the removal of the saleyards from Westfield to a more suitable position further south, in view of (he danger to traffic.
A note by the town clerk, Mr. A Leese, stated that stock from the north usually proceeded through Church Street to the Great South Road, and thence to Otaluihu. The proposed cliango would, therefore, not affect tho position in One Tree Hill, and appeared to concern only the local bodies south of Otahuhu. It was decided to take no action.
A second letter from the Beautifying Council suggested that the One Tree Hill Council should arrange for a conference with the Ellerslio Town Board, and that a representative of the Auckland Automobile Association should be asked to attend, with a view to formulating some scheme of regulating (he traffic at the Harp of Erin corner on tho Great South Road. Tho matter was referred to the traffic inspector for a report. Tho City Council notified that it had under consideration the establishment of a commercial air port for Auckland, arid bail convened a conference of local authorities to discuss tho question at the Town Hall on July 30. Messrs. W. G Mulholland and K. W. Aimer were appointed the council's delegates.
It, was decided to communicate with tho Transport Board to so.:) if it was intended to lay tram tracks in Green Lane West, in view of the possibility of tho council having the road concreted. The building inspector reported that during tho past fortnight there had been issued nine building permits, representing property to n total value of £llOl. Since the beginning of the year 117 permits, representing £26,160 in proporty, had been issued.
