POLICE COURT NEWS.
FINE IMPOSED FOR THEFT. A charge of stealing a bottle of whisky valued at 14s 6d was preferred against George Harvey Cornish, aged 21, billiard marker, in the Police Court on Saturday. Chief-Detective Hammond said accused had been working at a fair in Wairoa from which the whisky was allegedly stolen by accused and another youth. Tho magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, imposed a fine of £l, in default three days' imprisonment, and ordered restitution to bo made. For attempting to evade paying his fare on a eity-llerno Bay tramcar, Charles William Speechlcy, aged 72, was convicted and ordered to pay 10s costs, and twopence, the amount of the fare. On a charge of being intoxicated accused was fined ss. On a charge of being idle, and disorderly, John McCarthy, labourer, was remanded for a week.
