ENGLISH GOLF ITEMS.

NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION* HIGH COMMISSIONER'S PRIZE. [fBOM oun OWN CORRESPONDENT.] LONDON, May 8. The Now Zealand Association is holding its annual 18-holes stroke handicap golf competition at Fuhvell, Middlesex, next week. This has been a very successful function for the past few years. Previously, the secretary of the association has arranged for the competition on a Sunday, thinking that moro players would be able to get away. This year he circularised golfers, suggesting a week-day, and just as many acceptances were forthcoining. It is evident that New Zinlanders in London do not let their work interfere with their golf. Mr. T. M. Wilford, High Commissioner, is presenting a prize for the competition. Unfortunately, owing to the injury to his knee, he will not himself be able to play., but ho has promised to be present at tlio luncheon.

Another interesting annual competition is to bo held on May 31. This is open to Australian and New Zealand visitors and the members of the Brainshot Golf Club. A number of New Zealanders and Australians resident in London belong to this club. The winner of the competition receives a replica of the cup, which is kept at the club-house. An interesting contest was played this week between the New Zealanders and thft Englishmen in the High Commissioner's Department. The match took place at Pollard's Hill, near Croydon, and there were five 011 each side. Five singles were played and two four-balls. The New Zealanders won three of the singles, halved one, and lost one. They won both four-balls. A cup is presented for this contest, which hn§ been contested for seven years. New Zealanders in tlm ofiice have won 011 four occasions and the Englishmen three times.
