SOCIAL EVENING.
TALK ON HEALTH MATTERS. Tho People's Health Society hold a very successful social at the Fabian clubrooms 011 Wednesday evening. The programme included pianoforte solos given by Miss IIoilman; musical monologues by Mrs. A. J. Dreaver and Mrs. G. Davies; vocal solos by Mrs. Evans, and baritone solos by Mr. 10. Bassett. Instrumental items were given by Mr. Walter Smith and others, and the accompanisto was Miss Hoffman. The president of the society, Mr. A. J. Stratford, outlined the work of tho organisation, which aimed at the betterment of llio mental, emotional and physical health of the people, tho younger members of tho community in particular, so aiding to build ;i virile race. He announced that for educational purposes in this direction the society proposed to hold ;i stall at tho coming Winter Show. A Iccturetlc was given by Dr. Violet Hastings, outlining tho work being done by Dr. I'oilier, of Lcysin, Switzerland, in treatment of tuberculosis by sunlight treatment. Sunlight treatment gave tho patient new vitality, killed the germs and had a decidedly cheerful effect on the mental condition of the patient. It has been disclosed by the X-rays that diseased bones, under sunlight treatment, had actually re-formed. A led incite, was also given by Dr. C. S. liono 011 the relation of the emotions to health. The speaker outlined the effect of the emotions on tho food people cut, showing how its influence, affected the thought, which in turn reacted on tho liodv. Dr. J. I'. Hastings also spoke on the subject of health in general. The evening concluded with supper, supervised by Miss 0, Young, the honorary secretary.
