At the lawn tennis tournament championships at Wimbledon in tho fifth round of tho men's singles Allison (America) beat Cocliet (France), 6—4, 6—4, 6—3; Borotra (France) beat Lott (America), 6—3, 6—3, 6—4 i In the third round of the men's doubles Hopman and Willard (Australia) beat Miki and Satoli. 6—2, 6—2, 6 —2. Allison provided one of the biggest sensations in the history of Wimbledon by defeating Cocliet in three straight sets. Cocliet, being in remarkable form, apparently preferred a five set match. Critics frequently said lie would do so onco too often and this happened to-day. Allison, who was on top of his form, completely surprised tho champion and won tho first two sets and amid thunderous applause captured the third with his wonderful drive.
In the men's doubles, fourth round, Allison and van Rvn beat Hepburn and Horn, 6—4, 6 —4, 6—2. . In the men's singles, fifth round, Tilden beat Gregory, 6—l, 6—2, 6—3. In tho mixed doubles, fourth round, Tilden and Miss Aussem beat Brugnon and Mrs. Henrotin, 6—4, 9—7.
Henri Cochet won the British championship at Wimbledon last year. He has been doubles champion, with Brugnon, and French singles champion. In championship and Davis Cup matches ho and Tilden have had some great encounters. When he won the Wimbledon championship in 1927 he beat successively Hunter, Tilden and Borotra, after losing the two opening sets in each match. Allison, with Van Ryn, won tho doubles at Wimbledon iast year.
