WELLINGTON MEETING.

TRAINING AT TRENTHAM. FEW VISITORS ON SCENE. STAGHUNTER PERFORMS WELL. [by TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Tuesday. As usual, visiting horses are conspicuous by their absence at Trentham, even though tho meeting is only a week away. Consequently there was little of an exciting nature this morning. For the time of year the tracks are in great order, the plough even being in use. The course proper, however, is holding, and a little move rain will see it in its usual July condition. No rain fell this morning, although the sky was overcast. Hunting Call, going easily, strode over half a mile in 53s on the trial grass. Burnt Note, having his first sprint after coming m frorn a lengthy spell, took 51 2-5s for the same distance. Movietone (Moabite—Marriage Bell), Cape Gold (Cnpe Horn—Miss Gold) and Moab Queen (Moabite—Cool Tych). three rising two-year-olds, worked along well. Moviotono is very forward and is a nice colt. Arikinui and Rational 11. worked along together in good style, not being out against time. Oimabue put plenty of dash into a working gallop over six furlongs in 1.25. Ho went much faster in the early stages, but then slowed up oi his own accord. Royal Duke worked along quietly. He looks a fit horse. Crash and Intruder, separately, strode out well, and are in good order for coming engagements Historlc's Progress. Historic and Saltpot, on tho plough, strodo round to tho three-furlong post and then sprinted home in 39!5. Historic's hindlegs are not reassuring, but all going well ho will race at the hunt meeting at Riccarton and then in the Winter Cup. He is not engaged at Trentham. Siltpot is a likely-looking two-year-old trained by E. Penman. Ho is by S'lltash from a Comedy King mare. Staghunter and Kilmezzo ran five furlongs on the plough in 1.4 3-5, the. last halfmile in 52 4-ss. Both went well. Panther and Kintr Musket were sent half a mile on tho trial grass in SO 3-ss. Panther looks in excellent order and the appearance of King Musket suggests that lie is going to be a very useful three-year-old. Limosin went very well when out doing pacework on tho plough He is in excellent order.

Joia de Val beat White Doe over five furlongs in 1.4 3-5, the lust half-mile in 51}s, both doinp their best. Roi de Val was too good for Etehi Eangi over half a ruile on thi grass in 51 2 lis. Hynanna showed that he has lost none of his dash by sprinting threo furlongs with Duellona in 38s Both were under a good hold, and it was a pleasing piece of work. Lady Rene's Gallop. Concentrate showed his usual cramped action when trotted round prior to working, but went frpely enough with Dolomite in a working gallop afterwards. Royal Game and Half Acre, together, galloped half a rnila on the plough in 61J3. Lady Rene and Pat's Boy put up the best gallop of the morning, running half a mile on tho grass in 50s. with Lady Reno in front. Tourist alone took 53a to run half a mile on tho grass. Rasouli showed plenty of dash when finish, ing up a working gallop by sprinting down the straight. Matu and Panorama were companions in a solid working gallo- . Jlatu floes not appear to be going finite right, but Panorama is hitting out in good style. Conjuror 11. showed plenty of freedom when working, and his Hastings effort has left no ill-effect, judging by the dash he displayed. S. Reid and J T. Young worked their youngsters on ths two-year-old track. There ■.ro plenty of yearlings in work at Trentham. CANTERBURY CANDIDATES. LANCER'S TRIP CANCELLED. RANELAGH'S BRIGHT PROSPECTS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] CHRISTCHURCU. Tuesday. A notable absenteo from the Wellington acceptances is Lancer. 1 Arrangements for the trip had been made up to Monday, but his connections decided that the gelding had had enough racing in tho meantime to put him oe the right way for next month's racing. It was considered that there was a likelihood of striking a soft track at Trenthim and Lancer is not partial to anything but. firm going. His next appearance, therefore, will be in the Longbeach Hurdles at the Christchurch Hunt meeting, an event he won last year. li. W King will not be represented at the Wellington meeting. Aberfeldy is still suffering from a knock lie received while racing at Timaru. and Gala Day's two displays to date did not point to his prospects of mastering tho Trentham country. Radiate showed no effects whatever from his hard race at Ashburton, and traversed a couple of rounds on the sand at Riccarton to-day at a strong pace. He will again be ridden by A E. Ellis at Trentham, and it is only a matter for him to jump well to have an excellent chance in the Wellington Steeplechase Subdivision will accompany Radiate north. There is no doubt that this gelding has pace and is capable of winning races, but he is inclined to stop at a critical stago when a serious question is asked. Battle Colours, frrm the same stable, will not make the trip, owing to lack of preparation. Several of the Riccarton horses for the Wellington meeting have dropped out. and the following will now be the representatives on the first day:—Hurly Btirly, Tuku, Desert Song Master Clarence, Subdivision. Radiate. Amorist. Trorlus, Ranelagh and Semper ParatliH. Ln addition to these. Dunraven, Craigavon and Painkiller will go north to race on tho second and third days, and n similar plan may bo adopted with Rascal and Royal Mint after completing their engagements at Oamaru.

Tho Whyte Handicap candidate Ranelagh was responsible for an attractive gallop today. He and Subdivision were despatched from the seven-furlong post, but Subdivision broke away with a substantial advantage, which ho had increased before tho straight was reached Subdivision, however, failed to keep his- place when turned for home, and Ranelagh gathered him in a furlong from the post and beat him comfortably in the good time of 1.30. Ranolagh is at the top of his form just now and should collect some stake-money during next week's gathering.

BLACK DUKE'S MISSION. WHYTE HANDICAP ENGAGEMENT. [iJY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] DUNEDIN, Tuesday. Black Duke figures among tho acceptors for the Wellington meeting and us he is a good tioisa in soft going, generally associated with the Trontham winter meetings he may be regarded as a sure starter. On the first day the Whyte Handicap is moro likely to be his mission than tho Stewards' Handicap. Black Duko will arrive iu Wellington next Sunday. INJURY TO TUNAMOE. [BY TELEGEAI'II. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CERISTCHURCH, Tuesday. Tunamoo met with injuries while being conveyed homo from the Ashburton meeting and is an unlikely starter at Oamaru ou Saturday.
