THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. ACTIVITY IN MINING CROUP. A normal volume of business was transacted on tho Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, and prices showed no great variations from current levels. Inquiry was maintained for most Government investments, with holders still displaying reluctanco to sell. Little movement occurred in the bankinc group. Sales were mado at tho current prices of Commercials of Australia at 21s 3d, and Now Zealand? at 57s lOd. Quotations for others were practically unchanged from tho previous day. Insurance quotations eased a trifle, and South British were dealt in 3d cheaper at 59s 3d. Tho loan and agency section produced a sale of Newton Kings, prof., at lis 7d, this being the first deai sinco April 1, when the price was the same. Coals were active, three deals being made. Grey Valleys at 24s had fallen 3s since the last local sale in tbo latter part of March, but the price was 4d better than that obtained recently in Christ-church. Pukcmiros had salo unchanged at 665. Renowns, pref., new issue, fell Id to 2s 3d. In gas Aucklands gained further strength, being done at 25s 6d, a rise of 3d. In breweries New Zoslands, after selling unchanged at 51s, were wanted at an increase of 3d, with sellers asking 51s 9d.

In tho miscellaneous group tho only business dono was a bale of Taranaki Oils at 13 9d. Theso shares, which aro liablo to a call of 6d. had their last sale at 2s Id.

Tho mining group was unusually active. Waihis were dealt in four times at 14s 6d, having receded 3d from tho previous day's peak price, and moro woro available. Waihi Grand Junctions woro dono at Is 9d, a rise oi 6d sinco' February. Mount Lyells, ex rights, wero dealt in ut 2 4 s 9d, representing a readjustment of is 6d. Rights to tho new issue wero disposed of at 4s, and in further salo weakened to 3s 3d.
