PRESBYTERIAN MINISTRY.
AUCKLAND SUGGESTION. REJECTION AT DUNEDIN. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] DUNEDIN, Tuesday. An overture to the General Assembly from the Auckland Presbytery regarding the filling of vacancies was considered bv the Dunedin Presbytery to-day. It suggested the setting up of an advisory board of the Church, whoso functions would bo to compile a list of ministers who had been five years in a charge and who, in ordinary circumstances, were due for a change, together with an account of their records and qualifications, and to supply all the necessary information to the selection committees in cases of vacancies.
Tlio overture further suggested tlio abolition of the present system of vesting powers in the interim moderator and the appointment of a presbytery commission.
The Ecclesiastical Committee of the Dunedin Presbytery reported against- tlio overture, and expressed itself as strongly in favour of the free right of call. The committee, moreover, did not consider it necessary to bring forward any suggested improvement in the present system. The report of the committee was adopted, but on tlio motion of the presbytery the committee was instructed to go into the matter again with the object of submitting constructive proposals.
