FANCY-DRESS EVENING.

A plain and fancy dress evening was held at Onehunga on Saturday, when the pupils of Iho public school gathered to raise money for tho further improvement of tho school grounds. About 600 children were present., tho majority of whom were in fancy dress. Tho evening was a great success, tho pupils making a most attractive scene as they danced in their fancy costumes. MesJames R. Buchanan and A. E. Trayes were tho judges, and they found their task a very difficult one. In tho infants and standard I. three tied for first place as the best-dressed girl, viz.Joyce Coldicutt, who represented a bride; Kathleen Gatfiejd, a lady; Melva Constance, a fairy. Ihe most original girl's costume was won by Doreen Cadman as " Keep off the grass;" tho bestdressed boy, Brian Belcher, as an elf; most original boy'? costume, Duncan Gatlaud, " Tlit Order of the Bath"; standard 11. and over, best-dressed girl, Mario Macfarquhar, Amy Johnson; most original girl's costume, Flora Soad, Maori and piccaninny ; best-dressed boy, Billy Billings, a Turk; most original boy's costume, Clarence Thorpe, granny.
