MOTOR-CAR INDUSTRY.

ACTIVITY IN BRITAIN,

MEETING OVERSEAS NEEDS.

Commercial motor vehicles suitable for New Zealand conditions are now being manufactured in Britain at an accelerated pace, according to Mr. R. S. Dyball, a representative of Morris Commercial Cars, Birmingham, who arrived by the Aorangi yesterday on a business visit to the Dominion. His company is owned by Sir William Morris, Britain's largest motorcar manufacturer.

"The motor industry in England is in a stronger position to-day than it has ever been," said Mr. Dyball. "This is clearly duo to the amalgamations which have been taking place —a movement that cannot help strengthening the trade as a whole. The McKenna safeguarding duties are serving their purpose well and it would be a disaster if they were removed. Personally, I hardly think it possible any Government would dare to tako such a step now.

"The' question of developing overseas markets is being given attention at Homo. All tho manufacturers are tackling the problem vigorously, with tho result that there is little doubt that to-day there .irp on the market cars which are definitely suited to overseas requirements. British cars are now numerous in the Dominions and they are increasing every week. In recent years the British manufacturer ha 3 held the cream of tho commercial vehicles; that fact is exemplified all over the world."

Mr. Dyball stated that his firm is now producing a range of motor-trucks and passongor-carrying vehicles. "It is not long ago that I toured 3000 miles through New Zealand by car," he said, "and I know from experience of other countries that the majority of your roads are excellent. We definitely have a truck which has proved itself eminently suitable not only for New Zealand conditions but for all overseas markets." *
