INCREASED TAXATION.
Sir, —.As regards the raising of tional revenue from taxation why nufj increase the registration and licensing fes upon all dogs to double what it ia now, fj A 10s gi:in licence ought also to be iro-- : '|| posed upon all those possessing or using firearms. Acclimatisation societies could 1 impose the £1 game shooting licence as at present. A substantial amusement las; % ought to be placed upon all hunters, t.s it is only the wealthy and those able to ' pay who' can at the present time afford to "go hunting. All luxuries ought to • bear increased taxation, and all necessities such as farming machinery, etc., ought to be duty fro? so as to lower costs a«:l increase production. Silk ar.il all other unnecessary imported articles of clothing ought to be taxed much higher so as to give a much needed fillip to the woollen industry. It would, help both farmers am woollen manufacturers, increase employment and heip to keep in the country tome of the money which al. present goes to foreigners. Also if motorists had to pay a little more for the necessary upkeep of the roads there would be no necessity to reduce the number of railway employees, nor fo ini reuse lailway fare?, or freight charges either. Lastly, it" n "•'cry heavy penalty ■ were imposed upon all those trying to evade the law, particularly as regaids lho registration and lisensing of dogs and firearms, it would halp considerably to increase the revenue.
