GRAFTON GULLY.
Sir, —Tho thanks of many Grafton residents are duo to Mr. G. W. Restcn for drawing attention to the unsightly and insanitary tips which disfiguro the. head of Grafton Gully. Only last week a carrier unloaded a number of big barrels down.the tip abutting on Madiera Place. Tho contents were of a slushy, semiliquid nature and sent an offensive srnell throughout tho vicinity. Mr. Reston's reference to " a settlement of iron sheds," too, is very apt. This is not, the first time that attention has been drawn to these matters, but residents have become disheartened, feeling that the private interests involved are too big to become subject to the rules and regulations ordinary folk are compelled to observe. It is to be hoped that the City Council, now if. has the matter of the preservation of tho gully in hand will not overlook the top f-nd, but will secure it from any further ravages of commercialism and, so far as is possible, remedy the damage already done. G kafonian.
