BEAUTIFYING HIGHWAY.
THE GREAT SOUTH ROAD. DECISIONS OF COUNCIL. The Great South Road Beautifying Council at <1 meeting at Otahuhu last evening recommended in connection with the Harp of Erin corner that the local bodies interested call a conference, at which a representative also of the Auckland Automobile Association be asked to attend,' to formulate a scheme of regulating traffic at that corner.
A committee was formed to choose a site on the Great South Road on which to plant 200 rose bushes. With reference to the stock route, it was decided to recommend to the local bodies concerned not to consider further a proposed stock route, but to agitate for the removal of the present salo yards from Westfield to a place much further south. It was decided to approach the Westfield Freezing Company with a suggestion that it should beautify that portion of land near its works. The question of the many corners and turnings on the Great South Road was considered, and it was decided to recommend the elimination of all corners where possible. Several delegates reported on the progress in their distiicts with regard f,o beautifying work.
