REPORT OF FEWER TRAINS.

GISBORNE, Monday
Denials have been mado by railway officials of rumours that the railway service between Gisboruo and Motuhora is to be reduced to three days a week. The stationmastcr at. Gisborne, Mr. A. H. Northover, suggested that the visit of an official from tho head office, Mr. G. Wilson, a few days ago, might have given rise to the rumour, coupled with the talk of curtailment of Government expenditure, but ,so far as Mr. Northover was concerned, thero was no foundation for the statement. Mr. Wilson's inquiries in the district., the stationmaster said, the general working, of the railway, with a view to making suggestions to the head office for more economical working. In any case, if the suggestion of curtailment had been made during his visit, proposals would have to be referred to tho head office beforo an announcement was made.
