DEATHS OF CHILDREN.
TRAGIC ERROR AT LUBECK. WRONG VACCINE GIVEN. (Received June 28, 5.5 p.m.) PARIS, June 28. Tho Pasteur Institute lias issued a statement saying it' has been definitely established that tho deaths of children at Lubeck in Way after treatment against tuberculosis was duo to a tragic error in tho hospital laboratory, where' a doctor used a virulent tuberculosis vaccine in stend of tho Calmetto prophylactic vac cino. A cablegram from Berlin on May 21 stated:—Out of 246 infants at Lubeck who wero given tho Calmetto prophylactic treatment against tuberculosis, con sistins of germs from tubercular cows placed in their food when they wero between ono and ten days old, 19 have died and 37 others liavo serious symp toms of tuberculosis. Tho authorities have ordered the cessation of tho .treatment, and an in vestigation to discover whether tho in fonts wero givon an overdose, which tho doctors declare to bo impossible. Toey say 400,000 cases have been successfully treated in England, Austria and Italy. The Public Prosecutor is examining the records with a view to instituting prosecutions. !
