GRAFTON GULLY
Sir—Tho City Council deserves great commendation for their decision regarding tho east side of Grafton Gully, but why have they allowed thi? top end of it to be used as a rubbish tip ? Whether it is private property or not this should never have been allowed. Tho result is a painful and discreditable eyesore, visible from tho bridge, Symonds Street and every vantage point around, and to cap the lot the engineer, or building inspector, has given permits to erect quite a settlement of old iron sheds, which are a disgrace to i any landscape. One large shod has been erected over a filling, and this has slipped down into the gully, leaving part of tho shed standing 111 mid-air. Again, I ask, where is tho engineer to sanction such breach of the by-laws. The rubbish tip is being overhauled all day and every day by mei and . boys hunting for "treasure." This will be a real hotbed in the summer for flies and mosquitoes. This "tip" is sadly depreciating tho health and property values of this locality. G. W. Reston.
