MAINTENANCE OF CHILDREN
APPLICATION BY MOTHER. j CLAIM ACAINST . GRANDPARENT. '[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] NEW PLYMOUTH, Sunday. 1 The responsibility of a grandparent, for maintenance was the basis of an application made in tho Magistrate's Court yesterday. An application was made by Mrs. Stella Hamilton for maintenance for three of her children against John. Glover Hamilton, father of applicant's husband, who had deserted her in Rotorua in 1925. After hearing the evidence of complainant, that of defendant having been taken on commission at Auckland, the magistrate, Mr. R. W. Tate, adjourned tho proceedings' for a week to enable further evidence to bo produced as to the position of [complainant's parents,. Tho magistrate intimated that, his-idea was that the responsibility should be shared by all concerned. } Evidence was given that complainant was married to James Alexander Hamil •ton, son of defendant. Ho deserted her and -the four children of the marriage at Rotorua -in 1925, since which time the children - had • been destitute. It was for three children . that maintenance was asked. 1 'Tho husband, it was stated, had jevnded his responsibilities ever since ho deserted his 'family. Two of tho children •had 'been kept by complainant's parents, who, however, wore no longer able to keep them.
