AID FOR THE NEEDY.
.Approximately 2000 volunteer workers will take part.in the great charity cash . and clothes drive to be held to-day under the auspices of the Auckland Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Associa- ; tion. It is. hoped that every house in tho city and suburbs, the North Shore ; boroughs, Otahuh'u, Papatoetoe, Manurewa and New Lynn will bo visited between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., All parcels i collected from the various districts will bo conveyed to the main depot established ;in the No. shed on. the Central Wharf, i and will later be sorted and distributed ; among the poor and needy by the variou3 [ charitable institutions of the city. After weeks of painstaking effort prei partitions for the drive were brought to a close yesterday. The area to bo ► covered has been divided into 40 sections, i each of. which is in charge of a section captain. In addition to 400 motor-cars , which will bo utilised in the drive, 50 motor-lorries will be employed in trans* 1 porting the parcels from the various dis- • tricts to the main depots. Practical assistance is to be given by i members of the Interhouse Girls' Sports Association, who have undertaken to mako a collection through city business houses and offices. A number of Boy Scouts will assist, the various troops parading at 40 different assembling points at 8 a.m. One hundred Seddon Memorial Technical College boys and 56 pupils from the Auckland Grammar School have signified their willingness to participate in the work. In order to guarantee the bona fides of the collectors a small white cardboard eight-pointed star, inscribed with the association's name in blue print, will ba carried by each worker. Where-money is donated the amounts will be entered on special collection cards. In order to encourage country residents to contribute the Railway Department, the Aard Tourist Service and the Northern Steamship Company have generously agreed to couvey parcels free of cost, providing that they are addressed to the secretary of tho association and marked " For the Poor and Needy." The splendid past achievements of the travellers in tho cause of charity aro widely known and it is to be hoped that every home will contribute a parcel of clothing or mako a cash donation when the collectors call to-day. Householders are urged to have their parcels ready- by 8 a.m. The main depot on the Central Wharf will be open from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to-morrow in -order that the public may inspect the goods collected.
