TROTTING.
GOSSIP OF THE TBACKS.
LOCAL HORSES GO SOUTH.
MIGNONNE AND TORPEDO HUON.
Mignonne, who waa taken south by J. Bryce at tko conclusion of the Aacldand Trotting Club's Winter Meeting, waa bred by the Oakhumpton Lodge trainer, and waa sold' by him to her present owner. Iff. E. J. Parkes, owner of Gold Jacket, early in the present year, Mignonne'a performances before coming north were of a very creditable order, including a win in the Level's Handicap, II miles, in 3.31 at the Tiznaru | Trotting' Club'a Summer Meeting last Janui ary.' In March she. waa taken to the Invercargill meeting. Her first start was in the Trotting Cup. when she ran third to Erin's Fortune 3nd Maurice Dillon,, the former being the leading money-winner ; among the Southland horses this season. I On the second day Mignonno ran unplaced 1 in the Southland Handicap, but in a later I start easily won the Jollicoe Handicap, registering 2.54 3-5 for the mile-and-a-quarter. Her racing in the north has been a complete disappointment, as in each of her four start 3 she failed to go away correctly. Mignonne's next se.ason will be watched with interest. Although he did not win a race at the winter meeting, Warp lane look 3 a very fit horse and he should not go far into the new season without gathering a share ox the stake-money. A well-known Auckland sportsman recently purchased a three-year-old filly, half-sister | by Xelson Bingen to Dundas Boy, a good handicap hoi3e and winner of eight races last Beason. This youngster goes at the pacing gait and when asked to sport silk should acquit herself with credit. kelson Dillon was reported to be sore last week, which was probably the reason why he did not display anything like the form that characterised his efforts last sear sonRosalia's Triumph is being kept in steady work. The roan filly will be asked to race next season, so it will be as a four-year-old that she will have an opportunity to return to her owner, Mr. W. Wheeler, 3take-maney as recompense for the patient policy pursued with her. So far this season Torpedo Huon has not. shown good form, but he might do better in Canterbury. He has already demonstrated his ability to stay and he possesses a good turn of speed. On a clay track Torpedo Huon should be kepi in mind for events ahead. Torpedo Huon accompanied Mignonne when she went south and ho also has joined J. Bryce's stable. J. G. Bobertson is working- a maiden trotter by The Triumph from Miss Dexter, dam of Audex, in view of next season r 3 racing. This youngster, who goes at the trotting gait, does the work allotted to him in a satisfactory manner and should be seen to advantage later on. TROTTING CLUB MERGEROPINIONS AT TIMARU. Mr. Greenfield: Of course we do. Mr. H. F. Morion.* If we get three days we could run one for the unemployed. Mr. G. Wandell; Bemember how keen we were for those two days. Wa lost £6OO over it,, and soon went back to one day. Tha matter.waa left to tha delegate, Mr. H. F. Morton.
NEW BRIGHTON CLUB'S YEAR.
The report of the 2few Brighton Trotting Club states that the season was very successful, showing a profit of £2137,. which could ba attributed to the system of holding meetings on Saturday afternoons. The Tramway Board had decided to discontinue running the trams to JTorth. Beach and to substitute trolley buses. Under the circumstances, the committee felt that members would expect caution in dealing with the finances of the club, until such time as it was demonstrated that the carry-over to the bus system would not intarfere with the customary business of the club. The assets include cash in bank £3343. properties £2530, and buildings £SOO7, tho total being £14,775, and there are no liabilities.
