MARGARET HOWITT.
WELL-KNOWN FAMILY.
Miss Margaret Howitt, an English writer, whose death is announced from London, was a daughter of tho authors William and Mary Howitt, who had many readers in the Victorian period. Her father visited Australia, and her brother, Alfred William Howitt, was the explorer, who, with Brahe, found the remains, of Burke and Wills, and rescued the survivor of the expedition, John King. Several members of the Howitt family were associated with early Victoria. Dr. Godfroy Howitt, a brother of William Howitt, was one of the fast three honorary physicians to tho Melbourne Hospital. Another, brother, Mr. Richard Howitt, bought;: a farm, which in later years t becamo the suburb ,o£ Melbourne named Alphingtb'n.
