HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST.

The following weather forecast for 48 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. 11. M. Vincent last evening:— Mainly fair to fine weather is indicated in most districts during tho week-end, although still somowhat unsettled at times, with occasional showers in places near the West Coast, and in southern districts, Cold nights, with inland frosts. Southerly to south-westerly winds, moderate to strong, giving placo to variablo and moderate breozes, and succeeded by freshening northerly winds after about 35 hours. Rough though moderating seas on tho West Coast; seas smooth to moderate on tho East Coast, increasing shortly. Local outlook: Mainly fair to lino, but an occasional shower is likely. GOVERNMENT REPORT.

Tho Government moteorologist reported last evening as follows:—An intonso anticyclono covers the Tasman Sea and extends on to New Zealand. Tho development of a cyclone far to tho north-east had caused a freshening of southerly winds off tho east coast. Indications aro for inoderato to strong southorly winds, docreasing gradually to-morrow. A considerable swell is likely on tho east coast but seas otherwise smooth to moderate. Light winds in tho eastern Tasman Sea, with southerlies prevailing. Seas smooth. The weather will bo fino for tho most part over tho week-end, but thoro will be still somo showers in tho far north and south and in tho Gisborno and East Capo districts. Cold nights, with many frosts.
