The position at luncheon was that Australia had made 427 and the county 151 v-j for two wickets. Watson made 74. After j batting for 150 minutes and hitting nine • fours he was dismissed by a good catch -.■•-at the wicket. Hurwood and Hornibrook worried the batsmen. After luncheon the play dragged on dully until Iddon was run out, >vith the total 165 for three wickets. . •Rain interrupted play for 25 minutes. Hopwood hit McCabe for three sucG cessive fours, and 200 was raised for 250 -- minutes' play. A bright partenership with Tyldesley added 66 before Fairfax r . took Hopwood's middle stump. Four men .v. were put for 231 and two wickets then 'fell to successive balls. All tha last six - batsmen offered a feeble resistance, adding only 28 runs.
