Owmg to tha heavy decline in the prices of base metals of the chief mines at Broken Hill, namely, the Sulphide Corporation's property, the Broken Hill Proprietary's mine and Elock 14, are to be closed down unless the employees agree to a 17j per cent, reduction in their wages. The Miners' Union met the owners today in conference and now is considering the position. Another mine—the British—is to be closed down on Saturday.
