FORGED ENDORSEMENT.

STOLEN CHEQUE CASHED. ACCUSED PLEADS GUILTY. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Wednesday. A plaa of guilty was made by William Claudo Bright, aged 23, who was charged in the Magistrate's Court to-day with having forged the endorsement on a cheque f6r £45. William Martin, road contractor, Putaruru, said that on May 10 ho sold some goods to C. H. Humphries, and in return received a cheque for £45 from Mr. Humphries. He put the chequo in his pocket-book. Next day ho found tho cheque had been stolen. An assistant in tho Great Bargain Stores, Hamilton, Miss Nola Russ, said Accused bought two blankets and a rug from her, the price of which was £2 16s lOd. He tendered a chequo for £45 in payment. Tho cheque had been endorsed. After consulting the proprietor, Air. H. D. Caro, witness gave accused' £42 3s 2d in change. Detective-Sergeant Thompson submitted h statement signed by the accused, in which he admitted having found Martin's cheque and having forged Martin's signature on the back of the document. Ho had cashed the chequo at the Great Bargain Stores, Hamilton, and had spent Dearly all the money he had received.

The accused was committed to tho Supremo Court at Auckland for sentence.
