A METHODICAL THIEF.

ROTORUA HOUSES ENTERED. LONG LIST OF CHARGES. [BX TELEGRAPH. —OW CORRESPONDENT. ] ROTORUA. Wedsesday. Charges of entering several houses in Rotorua and stealing money and a large amount of jewellery were laid against Hopi Williams before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., to-day. Accused pleaded guilty. On the application of the police the charzes were reduced to theft, to allow of the accused's being dealt with summarily. There were 30 charges in all, extending over 15 months. The amount of cash taken was more than £3O. The operations of accused were very methodical and systematic. In many cases visits were made to different houses on several successive nights. Constable Kelly stated that he found accused standing outside Judge Holland's house. He asked him what he was doing there. He replied that he had a letter for the Judge, but he was not at home. Witness took him to the house and the Judge was at home. Accused was taken to the station, where he admitted that he had taken money from Jndge Holland's house on a previous occasion. ~ He pleaded guilty to all the charges. On the application of accused's counsel he was remanded for sentence until Friday morning.
