ROSKILL PARK.
QUESTION OF CONTROL. PROPERTY VESTED IN CROWN. Concerning a statement at the Mount Roskiil Scad Board meeting on Tuesday that Roskili Park was still private property and that no action with regard to equipping the children's playground in the park could be taken until the land was conveyed to the beard, Sir. Bruce Scott, solicitor for Mr. George Winstone, donor of the park, writes:— " Lt is necessary to correct an erroneous imoresston arising out -or the report of the 'meeting of the Mount Roskiil Road Board, where it was stated that Roskiil Park is still private property. The park, comprising an area of 22 acres 38 perches, including 3fount Roskiil, w-as donated by Sir.'' George Winstone to the public last rear. lt was actually vested in the Crown bv th© deposit of Plan 22526 in February last. " There is statutory provision for the Governor-General by order-in-council to appoint the local authority to be a domain board having control of any public domain. in this case, there is every reason t-o believe that the Mount Roskiil Road Board will avail itself of this provision and will apply to the Govemor-in-Couacil for the necessary authority. I. ntil this is donp. the Crown and not the domain board has control and is no doubt deriving revenue from grazing- the area. "Mr. Winstone has expressed the wish to see portion of the area equipped as a children's playground. It was his anxiety to see this work put in hand at once that made him ask the question which led to the remark that the area was still private property. There can be no doubt that the area is public property vested in the Crown, but it should soon come under the control of the local authority a.s a domain board when the proper representations are made to the Goveraor-in-Coun-cL'V
