BURGLARIES AT SHOPS.

ARREST OF TWO YOUNG MEN. POLICE RECOVER GOODS* Investigation by the police into several recent burglaries at suburban shops resulted in the arrest yesterday afternoon of two young men, who will appear in tho Police Court this morning. The men, who were living together in a bach at Point Chevalier, were arrested by Detectives Hunt and Allen. A quantity of goods, chiefly • cigarettes and tobacco, was recovered from the men's quarters. Another occupant of tho bach has been arrested on a charge of receiving. The thefts which are being investigated by tho police were from shops in tho Point Chevalier, Mount Albert and Dominion Road. districts, and they extended over a period of a few weoks. PREMISES AT NEWMARKET. DISCOVERY BY CONSTABLE. i An attempt to enter the Newmarket promises of Smith and Caughey, Limited, was made on Monday evening. The thief bored several holes round tho lock of the rear door which faces on Burke Street, and tho whole portion was then knocked out. Nothing was stolen from the shop, and it is thought that the thief was disturbed. The hole made in the door was discovered by a constable when making his rounds about three o'clock yesterday morning.
