CLEARING OF RAGWORT.

REMEDY NOT IN FINES. RELIEF WORK SUGGESTED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TE AWAMUTU, Tuesday. In fining an absentee landowner at the To Awamutu Court on Monday for failure to clear noxious weeds, the magistrate, Mr. Wyvern Wilson, said the practice of merely fining such- men did nob appeal to him particularly as a solution to the difficulty. What was needed was that the noxious weeds inspector should be given authority to put on men to clear the land of ragwort, the cost to be collected from the landowner. There were, he added, plenty of unemployed men capable of clearing ragwort, in fact, it wpuld afford a partial solution to the unemployment problem. The inspector who prosecuted said he fully approved of the magistrate's views and would like to see effect given to them. It would simplify much of his trouble.
