PENNY FARE FIXED.
TRAMS TO NEW STATION. AGREEMENT WITH DEPARTMENT. A penny fare will be charged on the trains which will run between the new railway station and the Dilworth Buildin:: in Queen Street. Passengers continuing the journey up Queen Street as far as the intersection with Weilesley Street will pay the usual 2d. This arrangement was decided on by the Transport Board yesterday. The board's manager. Mr. A. E. Ford, reported that he had interviewed the general manager of railways, Mr. H. H. Sterling. in Wellington, and had obtained his consent to granting the Transport Board running rights for 25 years at a peppercorn rental, provided the board agreed to a penny section between the railway station and the intersection of Queen and Customs Streets and a twopenny section for trams running to Weilesley Street. The distance from the station to Queen Street was 53 chains and to Weilesley Street S3 chains. The fares were approved and the manager was given power to complete the necessary formalities with the Railway Department.
