TE AWHiNA'S NEW WORK. TEST OF THE EQUIPMENT. Tho modern fire-furhling equipment recently installed on the Auckland Harbour Board's tug To Awhina underwent an unofficial preliminary trial yesterday morning. A powerful pump driven by steam from tho main boilers has beer, installed in the tug' 3 forehold and supplies tour 03-inch hoses and two 2/,-inch hoses, which may be played simultaneously. The pump is capable of delivering SG.CGG gallons of water an hour and will throw a 2-inch jet to a height 07 2CO feet. The Te Awhina was built by Messrs, Fleming and Ferguson, of Paisley, Scotland, and has served . for 22. years as the Harbour Board's principal tug. With her new equipment she replaces tho old Firofloat, which has been laid up after nearly 30 years' service as a fire-light-ing craft iu Auckland.
