MATRICULATION TEST.
DEMANDS OF EMPLOYERS. TECHNICAL PUPILS* POSITION. [by telegraph.—press association.] WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The board of governors of the Wellington Technical College has taken a hand iu the controversy over the matriculation Examinations, although a definite resolution has been deferred to await the result of an advisory committee's inquiries. Strong disapproval was expressed of the practice of some employers in demanding a matriculation standard of technical pupils. Matriculation, ■it was contended, was a test of attainment, but not of capacity, whereas the latter was the real test. The director of the college was in favour of the leaving certificate as against matriculation. He said that that was tha practice in England and that it was very satisfactory. "
