BREACH OF PROBATION.

MAN DEPORTED FROM SYDNEY FURTHER TERM ORDERED. A man who was arrested when the steamer Maunganui reached Auckland from Sydney last Tuesday, George Alexander Low, aged 27, draper, appeared for sentence in the Police Court yesterday on a charge of breaking tho terms of his release on probation in Wellington on February 7, 1929.

Chief-Detective Hammond said Low had been placed on probation in Christchurcli in 1927 for theft and had been convicted for a breach, serving three months' imprisonment. When he was released in November, 1928, lie had gone to Sydney, where he served two prison sentences for theft and assault, being deported on his release. Mr. Aekins said accused believed that when ho had served bis three months for the breach of probation tho probationary sentence was finished. He had been a draper, but the only work ho was able to obtain was that of a labourer, so he had left for Sydney. Accused's father was willing to pay his fare from Sydney and offered him a position in Christchurcli. "This is tho turning point in Low's career,", urged counsel, in asking for leniency. Tho magistrate, Mr. F. K. Jlunt, placed Low on probation for a further term of 12 months and ordered liirn to report at once to tho probation officer in Christ church.
