Commander and Mrs. Allan Varian,.who have been sponding a holiday at Russell, have returned to Wellington.
Miss Mabel Lever, late of the Muriel Starr Company, has arrived in Auckland from Sydney and is tho guest of her sister, Mrs. W. Glasso, Swauson.
Mrs. W. E. Anderson and her sister, Miss Daphne Henderson, of Auckland, with Miss D. Maclean have reached London, having spent the past four months on tho French and Italian Riviera.
Among the visitors staying at Hotel Stonehurst are: Mrs. S. P. Ward, of Sydney; Mrs. 11. W. Mason, Putaruru; Mrs. Haul), Dunedin; Mrs. Grieves, Feilding; and Miss Brac.kobush, of Rotorua.
Tho weekly meeting of tho Women's Progress Club was held on Wednesday afternoon at Tho Temple, Wellington Street. The president, Mrs. Grace Silcock, gave a very interesting talk on tho vibration of numbers, the second of a scries, and dealt with tho figures 1 and 2. Thero was a largo and appreciative audience.
The monthly meeting of tho Henderson W.C.T.U. was held in the Methodist Church, Mrs. Perkins presiding. A motion of sympathy was passed to tho president, Mrs. Piatt, and her family, in tho loss of her youngest son, whose death took place this week, members standing in silence. The business of the meeting was postponed till a later occasion. Tho monthly meeting of tho Devonport W.C.T.U. took place on Wednesday afternoon in tho Congregational Church. About six members offered their services for one day at tho W.C.T.U. stall at tho winter show. It was agreed to placo tho W.C.T.U. official magazine in tho Devonport public library. Tho address given by Mrs. Millar was much appreciated by tho members. Tho monthly meeting of tho Henderson branch of tho'League of Mothers was held in tho Foresters Hall 011 Wednesday afternoon. The president, Mrs. Walsh, occupied the chair. Tho aims and objects of tho league were read by tho president for the benefit of the visitors. Dr. Hastings spoke on sex problems and the training of tho young mind. The song "Keep on Hoping" was given by Mrs. Osborno, and afternoon tea, served by Mesdames Hartnell and S. Hughes, brought a pleasant meeting to a close. Miss C. Crichton Imrie, who is representing New Zealand industries jn the East, was the guest of Dr. K. Yano at the Central Maternity Hospital of the Japanese Red Cross, Tokio, recently, whore one thousand children had met to celebrate tho fifth of May. Dr. Taneda, who is on the medical staff of tho Imperial Household, was also present, states the Japan Times. Miss Imrio was accompanied by Miss 0. Mashima, who recently returned from London, where she qualified in child welfare and mothercraft at Sir Truby King's Institution. Later Miss Crichton Imrie visited tho poorer quarters of the city and saw tho settlement work under tho control of Mr. Kagawa, D.D. Sho was greatly impressed at the fmo work being done, and in the course of an address expressed her admiration of tho virtues of selfreliance, hardihood and courage which were being developed among tho people of tho settlement.
Mr. J. S. Fletcher, M.P. for Grey Lynn, and Mrs. Fletcher entertained tho Point Chevalier section of Mr. Fletcher's political organisation committee at their residence, Beach Haven, Point Chevalier, on Wednesday evening. Nearly 100 guests attended and wero entertained with cards, music and dancing. Solos wero sung by Mrs. W. J. McMillan and Mrs. A. E. Sehade. Tho chairman, Mr. W. J. McMillan, proposed tho toast of tho host and hostess, and in reply, Mr. Flotcher gave a short address. Among those present were: Mrs. W. J. McMillan, Mrs. L. C. Petry, Mrs. J. S. Croll, Mrs. H. ,T. Lyons, Mrs. R. 11. Jeffrey, Mrs. G. Bell, Mrs. A. J. Singleton, Mrs. H. E. Buckley, Mrs. P. E. Ross, Mrs. F. R. Lincoln, Mrs. S. G. Crookbain, Mrs. W. A. Phillips, Mrs. I). L. Mason, Mrs. C.
