FROSTS IN THE COUNTRY.
EFFECT ON DAIRYING. TOBACCO CROPS ALSO SUFFER. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TE PUKE. Thursday. Recent frosts have worked havoc with green feed throughout the district, and the majority of settlers are now feeding out ensilage and hay. The cold snap has also had the effect of accelerating the dry-ing-off of cows, which were being milked much later than nsnal this season* Advices from Morea, Rotorua, state that frosts and chill winds have given tobacco, growers cause for anxiety, the leaves having already received a setback. Soma are spraying the plants with water to prevent the sun from completely destroying the crop.
