The Sydney welter-weight professional boxer, Billy Richards (lOst. mado an auspicious first .appearance in Now Zealand tins evening by defeating Phil Stone (list.), of Wellington, ex-Now Zealafld amateur welter champion, in the seventh round.

Although the local man had tho advantage in weight the Australian's massive shoulders and head denoted rcscrvo forco and ho made a most elusive target. Stono did quite well up to tho sixth round, but mado the mistake of becoming over-confident and carrying tho fight to his opponent. Richards is a , two-handed fighter, and in the seventh round, ho put his man down for the count of eight with a beautiful right. Upon rising, groggily, Stono was sent to tho canvas again with left hook, and when he was knocked down a third timo as tho result of a heavy right swing to the head, the referee, Mr. Earl Stewart, stopped the bout and declared Richards the winner.
