Vincent last evening:—The extreme Boutiiorn edga.of tho cyclone which lias been raging on tho oast coast of Australia is moving across tho Tasman Sea, and is likely to affect tho northern portion of tho North Island. Coincident with tho easterly movomont of this intense storm system, an aroa of high barometric pressure has moved on to the South Island, thus creating u stoop barometric gradient. Expect cloudy to overcast weather, with heavy rain, in places northward of New Plymouth and Napior and along tho cast' coast of tho North Island. Mainly fair to fine over tho South Island, and cold temperatures. Easterly to south-easterly winds, freshening, and increasing strong to galo in the north. Rough to heavy seas on tho east coast, particularly northward from East Cape; smooth to moderate seas on tho west coast. Local outlook: Overcast, with heavy rain and stormy weather following. Tho Government meteorologist roported last evening as follows: —A moderate anti-cyclono is crossing tho Dominion today. Pressure is still low and conditions iiro disturbed in tho northern Tasman Soa. Indications aro for moderate to strong south-easterly to easterly winds, later north-easterly north of Greymouth and Kaikoura, reaching galo force in tho far north. Elsowhere moderate northerlies prevailing. Seas rough north of East Cape. Elsewhero moderate. Moderato to strong cast to north winds in the eastern Tasman Sea, with moderato to rather rough seas. Weather mainly fair to fine, but unsettled north of Auckland and about East Cape, with somo rain. Scattered showers also about Foveaux Strait.
