DEATH FOLLOWS ACCIDENT.
FORMER SCHOOL INSPECTOR.
STRUCK BY MOTOR-CAR.
As a result of head injuries and severe shock received. early on the evening of May 23, when he was struck by a motorcar, Mr. James Grierson, aged 77, died in the Auckland Hospital yesterday morning. Ho had never regained consciousness since the accident, which occurred at the intersection of Manukau Road and Ranfurly Road, Epsom. Sir. Grierson was crossing the street about 7.30 p.m. when he was struck by a. motor-car driven by Mr. E. C. Whitehouse. . Mr. Grierson, who resided at 37a, Ranfurly Road, was for a number of years inspector of schools .under the Auckland Education Board. Ho was born at Sale, in Cheshire, England, in 1853, and came to Auckland in 1877. After farming in the Waikato for several years he joined the service of the Auckland Education Board, and in 1897 was appointed an inspector, a position he held until his retirement. ;
An inquest was opened yesterday by the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., and was adjourned sine die after formal evidence of identification had been taken.
