"MUSIC WEEK."

CHILDREN TO TAKE PART

EDUCATION BOARD'S HELP.

The co-operation of the Auckland Ed"- 1 cation Board in arranging a special children's choral night during "music week" in August was sought by a deputation from tho Auckland Society of Professional Teachers of Music, which waited upon the board yesterday. Dr. S. K. Phillips, president of tlia Society of Musicians, said that with tha prevalence of mechanical music, real musio was being forced into the background. Tho idea of a special "music week" was that it should direct the people s attention to real music. Mr. Maughan Barnett, city organist, said children were being brought up in on atmosphere of mechanical music. A reaction against this was already apparent in England. Mr. 0. Muston said rehearsals for chili dren would bo held on Saturday mornings, thus not interfering with school work. It was decided to give the movement every support and to approach school committees and teachers' organisations.
