THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE.

PRICE MOVEMENTS IRREGULAR

A normal volume of business was done on tho Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. While price movements in tho sales were mainly toward .lower levels, a number of shares, well spread throughout tho market, had inquiry at firmer rates than on tho previous day. In Government investments steady inquiry was piado for all tho 4£ per cent, issues, but sellers pro dominated in scrip bearing interest at I,ho higher rates. Two sales were made in local body debentures. A riso of £1 sinco tho last salo three months ago was shown by Auckland Harbour Boards 1941, 6 per cent., which sold at £lO3 10s. Tamaki Road Boards, 1962, 6 per cent., wcro done at £lO2 10s.

Banks made only ono sale, Commercials ol Australia being done unchanged at 22s Id. at which price moro were available. Offers for tho preference issue of this bank and for New Zealands were firmer than on tho previous day. At tho close sellers quoted Now South Wales at £3B 17s 6d, the previous day's offer, but buyers' ideas of valuo had fallen to £3B 7s 6d.

South British Insurance was dealt in at 60s, tho current price. Now Zealands, which last had sale locally at 44s 9d, wcro wanted at 465, without response from holders.

A single transaction in the loan and agency group was provided by Dalget.ys, which were {tone at £ll 3s, a fall of 3s. In shipping two sales wero made at current prices, the preference issue of Hud-dart-Parkers being dealt in at 19s 9d and Northern Steamships being dono at 14s Bd. Tho timber group produced no busiiioss, but inquiry was firmer for Kauris, Nationals and Parker-Lambs. Breweries wore quiet. N6w Zealands, quoted for sale 9d cheaper at 51s Gd, attracted an offer of 50s 9d. In tho miscellaneous group British Tobaccos fell Is to sell at 40s, and final offers wero 6d weaker. The preference issue of Electrolytic Zincs was Is 6d cheaper with sale at 25s 6d. Ilayward s Pictures were done unchanged at 13s. New Zealand Refrigeratings, preference, fell Id to sell at 5s Bd. In mining YVaihis wero dealt in Id cheaper at 13s Btl. Mount Lyells developed further weakness, being done at 275, and later 26s 9d, compared with 28s at tho last previous sale.
