PARTICULARLY BUSY SEASON.

CARLTON CLUB ACHIEVEMENTS

The seventeenth annus! report of the Auckland Bowling Centre, to be presented at the annual meeting on June 30. states that the season iust ended had again been a particularly busy one, for, in addition to the uEuai full round of centre competitions visits were received from representatives of Canada. Tatirunga, South Auckland and Taranaki. while visits were made to Hamilton, Bay of Plenty und Gisborae, as well as visits by the executive to Helensville and North Auckland.

It was again pleasing to report a further increase in membership, the season closing with a tc tal of 4G affiliated clubs, representing an aggregate membership of 2895. as compared with 45 clubs and 2850 members for the previous season. The Bnckl&nd s Beach Club was granted affiliation during the season, and as inquiries had been received with a x'iew to the formation of another club, there was very prospect of the numbers being farther augmerled. The executive decided to reinstate the open singles competition last season, after the lapse of a number of years, and although the number of entries received, 102, might be considered fair, it was considerably less Ihan had been anticipated. The winner was C. H. de Launay. Epsom, and the runner-uo D. C. Fraser, Mount Eden. The Christmas fours attracted 5S entries, and some excellent play was witnessed, the final game being followed with keeD interest by a large bank of spectators. For the champion of champions' competition the singles champions of 29 clubs were entered, and as is usual in a competition of this nature the bowling exhibited was of a very high order. Winner, H. C'. Clarke. Carlton; runner-up. W. Brernner. West End. The continued popularity of the F.aster tournament was again amply evinced by the number of entries received, viz.:—Easter fours. 74 teams, clubs' executive fours. 22 teams; first-year players' fours. 1C teams: total, 312 teams. The results were:—Easter lours: Winners, Kendall. Blackwell. Richmond End T. R. George, Epsom; rnnners-up. Wicksteed, Elliott, Buxton and G. Wrightson, Carlton. Executive fours: Winners. Bates. Thirty-two clubs entered for the inter-club pennant competition, and they were divided into two sections, no fewer than 276 teams, or 1304 players, taking part on Saturday the competition was played. Unfortunately it was rather prolonged owing to several rounds having to be postponed on account of unfavourable weather, but in spite of this fact very keen interest was maintained throughout the competition, so much so that a series of interesting matches and in many cases remarkably riose finishes was the result. Section A was wc-n by Heler.svilie Club and section B by Auckland C'lub, the former club prevailing in the final after an exceptionally close finish. The centre's representatives retained possession of the Hardley Shield, scoring 33 wins and 1161 points to South Auckland's 19 wins and 1004 points. Heartiest congratulatincs we*e tendered Messrs. G. L. Gladding and H. Jenkin, who were successful in winning the championship pairs at the Dominion tournament in Ducedin. The incoming season would see the headquarters of the association established at Auckland for 12 months, and Mr. James Pascoe. of this city, had been elected president of the council, an honour well deserved. Heartv congratulations were extended the Carlton" Club on the outstanding successes achieved ny its members during the season.
