REFEREES' SCRUM RULING
TAKINGS AT CARLAW PARK.
The management committee of the Auckland Rugby League met last evening, Mr. G. Rhodes presiding.
An appeal for recognition of disqualified or suspended players by each of three foothn 11 codes was mentioned in a letter from the Auckland Football Association. It was j stated that a Soccer player had recently been j suspended and expressed his intention of playing League. The Football Association expressed the opinion that something should Lo done to prevent suspended players escaping the penalty of their misconduct in other codes. It was decided to support any acticn taken, provided the three bodies would j mutually recognise any combined eSorte. The New Zealand Referees' Association, in a lengthy letter, appealed for support in respect to scrum formation. The present attitude of the halfback in placing the ball in the ecrum had caused considerable trouble in i ecent matches. It was mentioned that in future all referees would instruct halfbacks to stand closer to the ecrum. It was decided to refer the letter to all clubs. A complaint from the Referees' Association that r.o accommodation was provided at the Domain for referees was replied to by the Auckland City Council, which Btated that u special room has always been set aside, but,m the case under review players vho arrived early had taken possession. The' letter was received. The question of the transier cf A. E. Payne, from Ponsonby to Ngaruawahia. was referred to the New Zealand Council. It was decided to donate two guineas to the Auckland Amateur Athletic Club's appeal to send A. J. Elliott and J. W. Savidan to the Empire Games. A lengthy discussion arose over a letter from Iho New Zealand Council asking for information in compiling statistics, and several questions were taken exception to by the chairman. The amount of money taken I { . a ch Saturday, said Mr. Rhodes, was no j business of the council, and he could eee no reason how the information could assist in compiling statistics, i Mr. E. Stallworthy said the letter was in ( the form of a circular sent to all Leagues. I The speaker saw no reason why the informaj lion could not be supplied by the Auckland j League. , It was eventually decided to leave the I matter in the hands of the chairman and secretary.
